The last week of June hosted the wonderful Hickstead Premier League and Dressage Masters Championship show. Boheme Af Sulsted was entered for four classes, two Inter I classes and a Prix Saint George class in the Premier League and the Prix Saint George Hickstead Dressage Masters Championship Final. We started our four days with an Inter I class on Wednesday. With a few brake and steering issues we ended on a middle of the pack score of 65.09% with room for improvement.
Day two saw Bo contest an Inter I and a Prix Saint George class. An improved degree of control led to a score of 67.46 in a super strong Prix Saint George class for eleventh place. In the Inter I class Bo scored a personal best at the level of 68.60%, good enough for a top ten finish in another quality field of horses.
Day three was reserved for the Hickstead Dressage Masters Prix Saint George Final. This was also a Premier League Summer Qualifier in its own right, but it was the first test in the Dressage Masters Championship Final, with the top ten placed qualified horses going through to the Kur Final the following day. Bo was on form and excelled in the International Arena for a personal best score of 70.09%, with one judge scoring him with over 74%. This was a great score in a big class for fourth place overall and second place in the overnight standings for the Championship. So we were through to the Kur final on the Saturday.
With very little practise time and a few mistakes in our music test we couldn’t quite get to the 70% mark and in such a good field of horses we slipped one place to finish third, less than one percent behind the reserve champion, in the Dressage Masters Championship. A great finish to a lovely few days at Hickstead and a real recognition of Bo’s talent and ability in his first season of Small Tour competition.
