Hickstead Premier League

Hickstead Premier League

So finally back from a sodden and mud covered Hickstead Premier League. Friday’s Grand Prix was a very wet affair in both the warm up arenas and the test arena, with a lot of withdrawals and a lot of debate as to whether I would run. I decided to go ahead and take it easy, Bo disagreed and tried to do a repeat performance of his Sheepgate expedition, so I somewhat held him back and we finished fourth on 68.12%. Thereafter the sun shone beautifully and came out again Saturday morning and everything looked promising, until the thunder, lightening and monsoon rain hit! Had I gone back to the arenas after plaiting up and getting ready for the Grand Prix Special I think I would’ve had second thoughts about running him. As it was I left it as late as possible to get on, did a very light 30 minute warm up and just took him ultra slow through the test as it was only his second special. A couple of blips and definitely not easy going in the arena but he did manage the win! Yay! His only mistake all weekend was trying too hard to go 100% at everything whilst I was trying to save him and be careful. To those that stuck it out in true British fashion, I commend you, to those that thought better of it I truly don’t blame you. Having been towed out of calf deep mud for the second time in under a week it’s definitely enough for a while. Great time had putting the world to rights with Kevin Sparrow and Patsy Bates in the down time and hopefully the sun will bless the show next year! ‪#‎ourhorseisawesome‬
