The moment we have worked towards for years has arrived, our chance to represent GB and wear the Union Jack at Grand Prix. We were very fortunate our first International was on home soil giving Bo a super easy journey to one of our favourite venues, Keysoe, Beds. We arrived and settled in on the Wednesday ready for the vet check on the Thursday.
Bo flew through the trot up and we were drawn near the end of the Grand Prix class on Friday. Our lovely ginger pony that has become so reliable over the last few months decided to become an absolute hot head in the arena. Mistakes cascaded everywhere as I tried to ‘gently’ guide him through his quieter moments in the test. I can’t deny being bitterly disappointed that I couldn’t do more for him but we would live to fight again. 63.4% was definitely not our proudest achievement but hopefully only one way from there. We finished 12th overall in our first international Grand Prix and got to have a first dance to our beautiful new Tom Hunt Freestyle.
We tried our best to dance our way through our freestyle, with a few little glitches, and a bit more ‘freestyling’ than I would’ve liked but we had excellent feedback about our Tom Hunt music arrangement and our Anna Ross floor plan. I felt very guilty poor Bo hadn’t had a chance to ride through it beforehand, so all things considered to finish 11th in our first ever freestyle together on 67.75 wasn’t bad. Our artistic marks were great with three judges already having us over 70 (two of them on 72), so with a bit of practice and ironing out the mistakes we should be on flying form. Thank you to everyone that made journeys to watch, sat fixated to the live stream and have generally put up with us for years getting to this point and thank you to Simon Bates and his team @Keysoe for putting on a great show, let’s hope it is the first of many.
