May 2017 – Somerford Premier League

A little update from our adventures at Somerford Premier League, we had a great show having initially set off with a little trepidation. We’ve been struggling slightly with Bo’s energy levels since his upset at Myerscough early in the year and have been extremely careful with his work routine since to try and get him back to how amazing he felt at the beginning of the year. At Somerford he finally felt like he was getting back to his normal self. After an enforced crash course in hacking (not his favourite pastime) around the beautiful mini-Badminton Lake complex and other terrifying x-country obstacles to get the test arenas he settled really well. Despite some very costly ring rusty moments in the Grand Prix he was a joy to ride and finished on +67% in a seriously hot class with so many 8’s for piaffe, trot extensions, pirouettes and changes he was a superstar (we’ll forget the fact he decided to poo in a test arena for the first time in a nine year career at X during our entry and then couldn’t trot off as a result!). Then in the Grand Prix Special he felt awesome, not as much power as the first day but so rideable and he showed me how much scope he really has to make the test his own as he strengthens up and finds his fitness again. He finished fifth with fantastic comments from the judges and an ecstatic rider. Cannot thank my super groom for the weekend enough, my gorgeous eight year old son, and all those that leant a helping hand at the show Jack Boarder, Dom Tangi, Anna Flynn and everyone at home holding the fort.
