Olympic Trends at Hartpury CDI***

I was delighted to be selected to represent Great Britain to compete at Hartpury CDI*** in July. It was set to be a massive show with all four selected members of the Rio British Olympic Team entered to ride in the Grand Prix class as their final run before departing for the Olympics.

The beautiful big ginger tried his heart out in the Grand Prix, we were drawn to go between Spencer Wilton with Supernova and Charlotte Dujardin with Valegro. A tough draw for anyone, he did get a little unsettled after the (very well deserved) three rounds of applause for Spencer’s test right before ours, but no excuses, it’s exactly what he needs to be used to. I had an expensive mistake in the very first trot extension where he simply went for 150% effort and caused me to then preserve him a little, rather than push all out, but he came back very well and settled nicely into the rest of the test. 67.44% left us 11th overall and in the company we were in I’ll take that. We were through to the freestyle Saturday night, ready to do our best to dance in the gala evening.

Wowzer what an atmosphere at the gala evening. A super steep learning curve for our boy and despite a good few mistakes I’m so pleased with how he coped. We finished ninth in a seriously strong field of horses in only his third ever freestyle. So much room for improvement with more mileage and confidence. The crowd were brilliantly supportive and I am so positive for our future. ‪#‎everyonelovesacrazyginge‬
